Some things you can do to give that area a boost are

2. One Mirror in Every Room

Mirrors can make a space feel brighter! This is because they  help move light around in a room. There are certain rules to using mirrors in home decor however.

A very good example of this is not placing a mirror directly across from a window. The reason for this, is because it will directly reflect the light causing extreme glare.

Mirrors come in many different shapes and sizes. Amazon is a great place to find the many different types of mirrors available for all the rooms in your home. Check out the rooms below and see for yourself
3. Lighting is Best In Layers

To me, lighting  is what creates the mood in the different areas of your home. It also helps you to function. Every-room should have at least 2 kinds of lighting:

Ambient Lighting

which provides overall illumination of a room
often comes from ceiling fixtures

A Good is example would be lighting over a kitchen island.

Accent Lighting

This type of lighting is more decorative.
It often comes from stand alone fixtures.
It can oftentimes be the mood setter of a room
